Whether it’s the Hope for Haiti telethon, Radiohead holding a benefit show,
or the hundreds of thousands of individuals who’ve donated to the relief effort,
people are coming together to support Haiti’s earthquake survivors.
At Oxfam, we celebrate this generosity and are already putting donations
to good use--delivering water, sanitation services, and much-needed shelter.

As the full scope of the damage wrought by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12, 2010 is revealed,
calls for increased coordination and faster, more efficient aid delivery increase.
The outpouring of support from nations and individuals around the world has been massive and immediate.
Yet, getting relief to communities and individuals in need has been painfully slow.
Reasons for the bottleneck in aid delivery vary, but include structural bureaucracies,
and a weakened Haitian government that has lost human and material infrastructure.
The latest barriers to aid delivery have been misinformation and rumors regarding the security situation in the country.

A massive earthquake hit Haiti late Tuesday, killing thousands of people and wounding many more.
The quake, measuring 7 on the Richter scale, has caused widespread damage in and around the capital Port-au-Prince,
leaving a large number of people homeless and hungry.
The people of Haiti need food assistance as quickly as possible to prevent hunger worsening the misery already caused by the disaster.
This is said to be Haiti's worst quake in two centuries. Every hour we wait means more lives are at risk.

Haiti faced a natural disaster of unprecedented proportion, an earthquake unlike anything the country has ever experienced.
The magnitude 7.0 earthquake – and several very strong aftershocks – struck only 10 miles from Port-au-Prince.
I cannot stress enough what a human disaster this is, and idle hands will only make this tragedy worse.
The over 2 million people in Port-au-Prince tonight face catastrophe alone.
We must act now.
President Obama has already said that the U.S. stands ‘ready to assist’ the Haitian people.
The U.S. Military is the only group trained and prepared to offer that assistance immediately.
They must do so as soon as possible. The international community must also rise to the occasion
and help the Haitian people in every way possible.”
Many people have already reached out to see what they can do right now.
We are asking those interested to please do one of two things:
Either you can use your cell phone to text “Yele” to 501501,
which will automatically donate $5 to the Yele Haiti Earthquake Fund
(it will be charged to your cell phone bill),

Thank you,
Wyclef
