My Sister’s Place, Inc. (MSP) is the largest and oldest non-profit agency exclusively serving battered women and their children in the District of Columbia. Annually, thousands of victims of domestic violence find sanctuary from abuse in our residential programs and supportive services. Currently our programs consist of emergency shelter, transitional housing, the region’s only transitional housing for immigrant victims of violence, the Emergency Services Center, and our 24-hour crisis hotline. Combined with our community outreach and education initiatives, My Sister’s Place is committed to providing safe refuge for families in crisis.

VOLUNTEER
Volunteers are the heart and soul of My Sister's Place. Without the dedication of more than 100 volunteers, we could not achieve our goal of assisting victims of domestic violence. Our faithful and committed volunteers make a profound difference in the lives of our clients everyday. Volunteers donate their time and talents to our hotline, children's program, community outreach and education activities, and administrative initiatives.
All volunteers must complete a 40 hour comprehensive training on domestic violence prior to beginning service with My Sister's Place.  Training sessions are generally held quarterly. For more information on volunteering with My Sister's Place,
please contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteer@mysistersplacedc.org

ONE BRICK

washingtondc.onebrick.org/

One Brick brings volunteers together to support other non-profit organizations by adopting an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering, and after each volunteer event, we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or cafe where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting.
Our 'commitment-free volunteering' allows you to choose when you volunteer, rather than having to make commitments for a certain number of volunteer hours, or agree to be available every week at a specific time. Volunteering made easy!

VOLUNTEER
Volunteering with us is easy. There's no paperwork. No orientations. No hassles. Simply check out our event calendar on our website for upcoming volunteer opportunities. When you see something you're interested in joining, just RSVP online.

Serve.gov

The President has said that the challenges America faces are unprecedented, and that we need to build a new foundation for economic growth in America. The Administration has begun this work with dramatic new investments in education, health care and clean energy, but we cannot do this alone here in Washington. Economic recovery is as much about what you're doing in your communities as what we're doing in Washington – and it’s going to take all of us, working together.
Serve.gov is your online resource for not only finding volunteer opportunities in your community, but also creating your own. Use Serve.gov to help you do your part. America’s foundation will be built one community at a time – and it starts with you.
Serve.gov is managed by the Corporation for National and Community Service.

VOLUNTEER

"United We Serve" is a nationwide service initiative that will help meet growing social needs resulting from the economic downturn. With the knowledge that ordinary people can achieve extraordinary things when given the proper tools, President Obama is asking us to come together to help lay a new foundation for growth. This initiative aims to both expand the impact of existing organizations by engaging new volunteers in their work and encourage volunteers to develop their own "do-it-yourself" projects. United We Serve is an initial 81 days of service but will grow into a sustained, collaborative and focused effort to promote service as a way of life for all Americans.
